Any circuit board that is covered in that much acidic flux is going to fail over time. I’m pretty confident that this is the part that has failed.The manufacturing inside this thing is very sloppy.

It been cleaned after assembly.Additionally, I could see a voltage regulator that had discolored the circuit board due to heat. After I removed everything, I realized that it was just a huge amount of flux from all of the through-hole components from when they were soldered. I could see gobs of haze and what looked like corrosion. I’m a technical kind of guy, so I opened it up to take a look.At first glance, I thought I must have spilled something inside of it. After a little while longer, power cycling via the power switch wouldn’t work any more, but unplugging the power cord and reconnecting it would work.After a couple more weeks of this, it would not power up anymore. It didn’t stay that way…After about six months, it would become disconnected from my computer. I wouldn’t trust it to last any longer than the warranty.I bought one of these a while ago (not from Amazon) and for the first few months, it was great. For example Thermaltake as a brand seems to always see a good rep and a combination USB 2.0/eSata docking station can be found for a good price.
